Spine Team Maryland Physician Bios Katrina McLellan, M.D. FAA PM&R Dr. McLellan is a practicing physician with Spine Team Maryland at Doctors Community Hospital, who is board certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R or Physiatry). Specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic spinal and musculoskeletal pain, she brings a multidisciplinary approach to the care of her patients. Her non-surgical treatment plans focus on lifestyle changes and physical therapy in addition to medical management and targeted interventional procedures. As a physiatrist, Dr. McLellan evaluates each patient and then develops an individualized treatment plan that strives to address the source of pain, restore maximum function and improve quality of life. A graduate of the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA, Dr. McLellan developed a successful career in public relations prior to pursuing a second career in medicine. She began her post-baccalaureate premedical studies at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., before earning her medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, Va. She completed her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Va., and also served as Chief Resident. Following her residency, she joined The Center for Pain Management & Physiatric Rehabilitation in Annapolis, Md., to pursue advanced training as a fellow in interventional pain management. Dr. McLellan is a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and her active memberships also include the American Academy of Pain Medicine, the American Association of Neuromuscular & Electrodiagnostic Medicine and the North American Spine Society. A graduate of Texas Woman’s University with a bachelor's in physical therapy. Twomey worked at Saint Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston, Texas. As the senior therapist in cardiac rehabilitation, he worked with patients with a variety of heart conditions. Upon leaving Saint Luke's, Twomey used his knowledge to work in an outpatient setting with both orthopedic and cardiac patients. Relocating to Maryland, Twomey became the assistant director of physical therapy at Doctors Community Hospital. During his tenure at Doctors Community Hospital, Twomey has worked in the outpatient clinic, seeing a variety of patient conditions including patients with musculoskeletal pain. Twomey has lectured at the Howard University Physical Therapy School on the McKenzie Method of evaluation and treatment of spinal pain as well as the University of Texas Medical Branch's Physical Therapy School on the rehabilitation of cardiac transplant patients. In addition to having taught accredited classes on EKG interpretation for therapists, he also has lectured at the Texas Woman's University Physical Therapy School on myofascial release. He has experience working with both chronic and acute pain patients, with emphasis on the use of exercise and manual skills for restoration of patient’s functional levels. Michael has served as Assistant Director of Physical Therapy where his responsibilities included both supervisory and administrative duties. He was responsible for the supervision of the Inpatient Physical Therapy Departments. Michael also has experience working in an Orthopedic Department treating patients who received total joint replacements as well as patients with various orthopedic dysfunctions. At Spine Team Maryland, located in Lanham, Michael helps patients improve their quality of life through therapeutic treatment that includes manual therapy, specific exercises and patient education.

Dr. Fraser Henderson is a board-certified neurological surgeon who specializes in complex spine surgery, degenerative spine, spinal deformities, spinal cord trauma and spine tumors. Dr. Henderson has been featured on various Television programs including NBC Nightly News, MSNBC, NBC LOCAL News and CNN. During his professional career, Dr. Henderson has had numerous academic assignments, including Professor of Neurosurgery at Georgetown University and Associate Professor Radiation Medicine at Georgetown University. He has served as Chief of Neurosurgery at Veterans Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina. Dr. Henderson has been involved in many medical inventions during his professional career, some of the inventions include a fusion stabilization chamber, radiosurgery methods that utilize stereotactic methods and a disc fusion device, to name a few. He has been named among the “Best Doctors in America” from 2001 to 2010. Dr. Henderson was awarded the “Top Surgeons 2008” recognition by the Consumer Research Council of America. He earned his medical degree from University of Virginia, followed by a residency in Neurosurgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Dr. Henderson also served as Chief Resident at Medical University of South Carolina. He completed a Fellowship in Spine under Professor Alan Crockard FRCS in the Department of Surgical Neurology at The National Hospitals for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London. As a leading authority on Neurosurgery, Dr. Henderson speaks at national and international meetings meetings on various topics including stereotactic radiosurgery and spinal cord stress injury. He is a member of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons / Congress of Neurological Surgeons (Spine Peripheral Nerves) and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons / Congress of Neurological Surgeons (Trauma and Critical Care), the Cushing Society, the Cyberknife Society and the Charleston Medical Society.
